Hi everyone!
So a game that has come out recently, and I’ve enjoyed previous installments of, is Diablo 3. Yeah, I waited 11 or so years just to play this game. I have had my doubts on whether I would like it or not, or even if my computer could run it. After seeing my friend’s play it, and finding out that my computer was more than powerful enough, I decided to go for it. Buying it late one evening, after work, I got to experience the greatest smell of all time: a brand new disc ready for me to explore the universe contained within.
Or so I thought.
As soon as I began to install the game, I instantly started to run into installation errors. Mainly that my “system was out of date”. I may not have the best computer out there, and I may not be the greatest computer tech ever, but at least I know that my computer isn’t totally out of date. The only bad thing about this computer, is that I run Windows Vista……yea….it’s unfortunate, but what can you do.
Anyway, my drivers and such were up to date. At least as far as I could tell. Went in to see what I needed, and they were all there, except apparently the service packs. Easy fix right? Let’s just use the Windows updater to automatically install them. Not working? Hmn….okay, well let’s try it manually. Still not working. What the heck am I suppose to do?

I eventually gave up because I could not figure out for the life of me how to find what drivers or updates I’m missing. So, like any good tech support person would do to figure it out, it was time to Google the problem! Checking everything I could, including forums for both Microsoft, and Diablo 3. Everywhere I went, all I saw were people complaining about how Blizzard has screwed them over. No help anywhere, or even if I did find someone having a similar problem, but no one answering with anything helpful. Nothing on how to update drivers (other than just auto/manually installing them). Eventually I got burned out and tired. Nothing was coming up that could help me, and everything seemed to contradict itself.
Gosh I wish I knew more about computers….So far, I haven’t been able to play my 60 dollar game. Thank you Blizzard for already screwing me from the beginning…..
When I finally gave up looking at forums and reading tech support pages, (and almost 24 hours later, including working, eating, and hardly sleeping), I decided to try something a little drastic. I would type the errors I was recieving onto the Microsoft site. Find which update they were associated with. Try it. If it didn’t work, I’d go on with the next. One by one for almost 40 updates……
Thank goodness I didn’t have to go through all of them. 28 was my lucky number.
After that, other updates that couldn’t install started to work. Quickly, my computer began to update. Four restarts and over 130 updates later, my computer was fully functioning. It even contained both Vista Service Packs 1 and 2. After looking around for hours, the only thing that helped me was a little patience, and a lot of trial and error.

Now that my computer was up to date according to what Blizzard wanted, I was finally ready to play. Almost 50 hours later. Hopefully other’s won’t/haven’t gone through all this pain and misery just to play a game. Apparently this issue is very common with Vista, and last I checked (earlier this week) there still isn’t much info on it. Hope that no other gamer has to suffer through this. Was it worth it in the end? Yes. Yes it was. Well, for the most part. More on that later.
